The 2018 edition of the Sydney to Hobart race is once again promising to be a tightly fought contest with 89 yachts set to compete in the Australian classic.

In the maxi fleet the 5 Southern Spars rigged racing machines; Wild Oats XI, InfoTrack, Scallywag, Blackjack and Comanche will square off against each other for overall line honours victory. After Wild Oats XI reclaimed Line Honours at the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge last week, she will be looking to add to her 7 race victories at the Sydney Hobart. However, with tough competition from 4 other maxi superyachts it will be a tight race to the finish.

Not far behind the big boats there is the increasingly strong IRC52 division with new offshore equipped 52’s joining the fleet with increasing frequency. There has been significant demand for ex-MedCup TP52’s to be modified to permit offshore sailing, keeping the RigPro service team in NZ busy with design studies and reef retrofit upgrades.

Whilst in Division 1 Southern Spars rigged Ichi Ban will look to continue her fine form by taking the title of IRC Divison 1 and IRC Overall Winner for a successive year.

What is for sure is that this 628-mile race is definitely not to be missed, and we can’t wait to see who will be the first to cross the finish line in Hobart. The last time someone got on the podium of the Sydney to Hobart race without Southern Spars was 2008, and we are expecting our yachts to dominate for the 10th consecutive year!
