Southern Spars Returns to the Millennium Cup 2021

In less than two weeks’ time one of the greatest superyacht regattas, the Millennium Cup, returns to New Zealand’s shores for a celebration of good racing, great cruising grounds and exceptional hospitality. Southern Spars has been a longtime supporter and sponsor to the Cup, and this year is no different, as we return as Gold Sponsors to the regatta. Since the race’s inception, our rigged yachts have been permanent fixtures on the entry list and we are proud to see that half of the superyacht entries will be competing with Southern Spars rigs over the three days of adrenaline-filled racing.

This year, the iconic regatta coincides with the 2021 America’s Cup and is set to see a number of Millennium Cup veterans take part, alongside some new faces too. Silvertip will be one of the top yachts to watch out for, sporting a Southern Spars rig and Future Fibres ECsix rigging. The 34.2 metre yacht has already claimed the top prize twice and will be aiming to come back and win it for the third time. Sailing upon Silvertip will be our representative Mark Hauser, Head of GP Sales

However, Silvertip will have to compete against Tawera, another Southern Spars rigged favourite. The 28 metre yacht, based in Auckland, won the trophy back in 2019 and after a year off she will be looking to return to reclaim her crown this year.

Whilst we will also be keeping an eye on the Southern Spars rigged Miss Silver, built by Alloy Yachts and launched in 1995. The yacht is no stranger to this kiwi regatta and on board will be our Head of Superyacht Sales, Paul MacDonald.

It is sure to be unmissable few days on the superyacht calendar and we look forward to seeing the racing begin!
