49er Sailing World Championship

Congratulations to the kiwi pair Peter Burling and Blair Tuke who won the 49er Sailing World Championship this weekend, for a historic sixth time!

The duo, who plays a key part in the Emirates Team New Zealand America’s Cup defence team, defended their title with an impressive 20-point lead over the second-placed Spanish pair of Diego Botin and Iago Lopez Marra.

The pair had started the final day in second, and stamped their class on proceedings by winning the two gold fleet races left on the schedule and then taking an 18-point lead into the double-points, top-10 medal race.

Continuing what was a great day for Spain, Spaniards Tamara Echegoyen and Paula Barcelo won the match race in the 49erFX class to secure gold.

Southern Spars has provided high performance carbon rigs to the both the 49er and 49erFX classes for over a decade, helping each team to compete at the highest level.
