North Technology Mast Group Graduate Program

Are you passionate about sailing and eager to apply your skills and knowledge to real-world challenges? Look no further! Our Graduate Program offers a unique international experience spanning two years, allowing you to gain invaluable insights and work experiences across our group.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for commercially minded graduates with a strong foundation in business, economics, finance, or marketing. Individuals who are passionate about sailing, how decisions are made, and how value is created over the long term.

As part of this, an interest in how technology (particularly AI) is shaping modern business is increasingly important. Whether through improving efficiency, supporting decision-making, or enhancing marketing and sales processes.

An appreciation for high-value products or services, attention to detail, and a measured, professional approach to communication are all important. We are particularly interested in those who can demonstrate an awareness of relationship-led environments, where trust, discretion, and long-term thinking are essential.

Above all, we are looking for graduates who are willing to learn, ask questions, and develop a well-rounded commercial skillset.

What You’ll Be Involved In

This role offers exposure to the core commercial functions of the business, providing a broad foundation across sales, marketing, and client engagement.

You can expect to be involved in:

  • Sales Processes
Supporting the sales cycle from initial enquiry through to project delivery. This may include preparing proposals, coordinating internal teams, and developing an understanding of how high-value deals are structured and managed.
  • Marketing & Brand Positioning
Contributing to marketing activity across digital and traditional channels. This could involve content creation, campaign support, and gaining insight into how brands are positioned within competitive and specialist markets.
  • Client Engagement
Assisting with client communications and developing an understanding of relationship management, particularly within high-value, service-led environments.
  • Event Planning & Industry Engagement
Supporting the planning and delivery of events, exhibitions, and industry gatherings. This includes coordination, logistics, and understanding how these platforms contribute to brand presence and commercial outcomes.
  • Commercial Insight & Analysis
Gaining exposure to the commercial side of the business – how opportunities are assessed, how performance is measured, and how decisions are made to support long-term growth.

This is an opportunity to build a well-rounded understanding of how a commercial organisation operates, with exposure to both strategic thinking and day-to-day execution.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for engineering graduates who are passionate about sailing, with a strong academic foundation. A genuine interest in how high-performance structures and systems are designed, built, and refined in real-world environments.

We typically look for graduates in:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Naval Architecture
  • Composite Engineering
  • Materials Science
  • Mechatronics (particularly with programming or machine learning exposure)

You should be naturally curious about how things work under load, how materials behave over time, and how design decisions translate into performance. An interest in structural integrity, fatigue, aerodynamics, and efficiency will be highly relevant.

We value individuals who can combine sound engineering principles with practical thinking -those who are willing to question, test, and refine ideas rather than accept them at face value.

Given the environments we operate in, attention to detail and a methodical approach are essential. You should also be comfortable working as part of a wider team, where engineering decisions often intersect with commercial, operational, and client considerations.

Alongside this, an awareness of how modern tools, including AI and data-driven methods are influencing engineering design, analysis, and optimisation is increasingly important. We are interested in graduates who see these as tools to support better engineering outcomes, not shortcuts.

What You’ll Be Involved In

This role offers exposure to a wide range of engineering activities, from concept through to delivery, across some of the most demanding and high-profile projects in the marine and performance sectors.

You can expect to be involved in:

  • Design & Engineering Development
Supporting the design and refinement of masts, rigging, and structural components. This may include working with CAD models, analysing load cases, and understanding how design choices impact performance and reliability.
  • Composite & Materials Engineering
Gaining hands-on exposure to advanced composite materials, including carbon fibre structures. You’ll develop an understanding of material behaviour, manufacturing processes, and how to optimise strength-to-weight ratios in demanding applications.
  • Analysis & Performance Optimisation
Assisting with structural and performance analysis, considering factors such as load paths, fatigue life, and environmental conditions. This may involve working with simulation tools and data to support engineering decisions.
  • Manufacturing & Production
Working alongside production teams to understand how engineered designs are realised in practice. This includes exposure to processes such as lamination, curing, machining, and quality control.
  • On-Site Operations & Testing
Supporting activities such as mast stepping, inspections, and sea trials, gaining insight into how systems perform in real operating conditions and how engineering feedback loops into future design improvements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
Working closely with commercial, project management, and operations teams to understand how engineering integrates within a broader business context.
  • Use of AI & Advanced Tools in Engineering
Exploring how AI and data-driven approaches can support engineering tasks, from design optimisation and simulation to process efficiency and data analysis, while maintaining a strong grounding in first principles.

The Environment You’ll Be Working In

You will be contributing to projects at the very top end of the industry, including work associated with elite performance sailing such as the SailGP and the America’s Cup, as well as some of the world’s most recognised superyachts.

Alongside this, you will gain exposure to a rapidly evolving sector through the development of commercial wind propulsion and next-generation vessels within the emerging windship industry where engineering plays a central role in shaping more efficient, lower-emission solutions for the future.

This is an opportunity to apply engineering knowledge in a practical, high-performance environment, working on structures and systems where precision, reliability, and continuous improvement are expected as standard.
